Ask a Designer - Best color for dining room

Q: "I have managed to make this room too gray.  I'm going to change the table cloth but do you have any suggestions as to how to break up all the gray in the curtains?"

A: Thank you for your question and we would love to provide you with some suggestions!

Firstly, I would add an area rug that has an accent color.  I would select an accent color that would also be included in a piece of art on the fireplace tile or other adjacent wall, table runner, accessories on the table.

You could also introduce a different finish in the room (dining pendant, accessories on table top, artwork frame). This could additionally add some warmth to the space.

Lastly if you introduce a warm accent color that is included in art, area rug, accessories, you can keep the walls neutral or lighter. Here are some great neutral wall colors: Neutral ground, Amazing Gray, Agreeable Gray by Sherwin Williams, Light Pewter, Revere Pewter, White Dove, Chantilly Lace, Decorators White by Benjamin Moore
